from the announcement:

A new deluxe coffee table book authored by Blocks magazine Editor Graham E. Hancock celebrates 25 years of LEGO Star Wars

If ever there was a dream project to announce, it’s this one – I have authored a new book to mark 25 years of LEGO Star Wars. LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity is a coffee table book for LEGO fans and Star Wars fans, written specifically for adults in the same way that Blocks magazine is.

This coffee table book, presented in a beautiful box with an exclusive Time Capsule, will be exclusively available at LEGO.com. You can pre-order a copy from May 1 and it will be published in July. It is priced at £129.99 / €149.99 / $149.99.

Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams, provides the foreword for LEGO Star Wars: The Force of Creativity and Star Wars design legend Doug Chiang joins LEGO Star Wars Design Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen in conversation for the prologue.

There are then nine themed chapters that go deep into what makes LEGO Star Wars something special. The first chapter covers how the collaboration between the LEGO Group and Lucasfilm came about, before the book delves deep into how models and minifigures are designed. Specific chapters focus on Ultimate Collector Series sets and the unusual innovative sets that have cropped up over the years.

To wrap it all up there’s a gallery of incredible of fan creations and an appendix listing every Star Wars set ever released. It’s 312 packed pages, beautifully designed and with some fantastic never-before-seen pictures.

The Time Capsule contains a selection of extra special items from the past 25 years, starting with a replica of the Toy Fair invitation box that was sent out to buyers ahead of Toy Fair 1999. It’s just the cardboard box aspect, ready for you to build your own scene and pop it inside. There’s also an unproduced script for a LEGO Star Wars talk show, official instructions for the Lucasfilm Yoda Fountain employee gift, element concept sketches and more.

ISBN 978-1476695631

solicitation copy:

By 1977 National Public Radio (NPR) was in trouble, plagued by too little funding and small audiences. The phenomenal success of its adaptation of Star Wars as a radio drama in 1981 gave NPR the needed ratings, publicity, and boost in donations that kept it afloat at exactly the time it was threatened the most. Most importantly, Star Wars brought a new audience to NPR. As it did in theaters, where George Lucas’s films redefined movie making, so too did NPR’s Star Wars forever change the artistic world of radio drama.

That a radio network, dependent exclusively on audio, would find a lifeline in one of the most visually dynamic movies ever released is the stuff of irony. Utilizing new interviews with creatives such as Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Ann Sachs (Princess Leia), Perry King (Han Solo), and director John Madden, and archival research, this book details how an unlikely alliance of academics, radio executives, Lucasfilm employees, actors, and behind-the-scenes artists banded together, despite the obstacles, to create a unique and consequential work. It is also the story of how writer Brian Daley was the fulcrum who made it all possible.

Star Wars exploded onto our cinema screens in 1977, and the world has not been the same since. In this book, George Lucas guides us through the original trilogy like never before, recounting the inspirations, experiences, and stories that created a modern monomyth. Complete with script pages, concept art, storyboards, on-set photography, and more.

Star Wars exploded onto our cinema screens in 1977, and the world has not been the same since. After watching depressing and cynical movies throughout the early 1970s, audiences enthusiastically embraced the positive energy of the Star Wars universe as they followed moisture farmer Luke Skywalker on his journey through a galaxy far, far away, meeting extraordinary characters like mysterious hermit Obi-Wan Kenobi, space pirates Han Solo and Chewbacca, loyal droids C-3PO and R2-D2, bold Princess Leia and the horrific Darth Vader, servant of the dark, malevolent Emperor.

Writer, director, and producer George Lucas created the modern monomyth of our time, one that resonates with the child in us all. He formed Industrial Light & Magic to develop cutting-edge special effects technology, which he combined with innovative editing techniques and a heightened sense of sound to give audiences a unique sensory cinematic experience.

In this first volume, made with the full cooperation of Lucasfilm, Lucas narrates his own story, taking us through the making of the original trilogy—Episode IV: A New HopeEpisode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi—and bringing fresh insights into the creation of a unique universe. Complete with script pages, production documents, concept art, storyboards, on-set photography, stills, and posters, this tome is an authoritative exploration of the original saga as told by its creator.

ONE WITH THE FORCE

18 Universal Truths in Star Wars
hardcover (USA)

publisher info:

written by Krista Noble, PhD
Rowman & Littlefield Publishers
hardcover (200 pages)
ISBN 978-1538198711

$ 36.00

solicitation copy:

Explores how popular religions and philosophies have influenced and are manifested in the world of Star Wars.

You have watched Luke Skywalker destroy the Death Star in A New Hope, seen Yoda merge with the Force in Return of the Jedi, and heard Rey contact the Jedi of the past in The Rise of Skywalker. But did you know that the Star Wars films contain parallels to religions and philosophies from around the world—from Christianity to Buddhism, and from Native American teachings to the Vedic knowledge of ancient India?

In One with the Force: 18 Universal Truths in Star Wars, Krista Noble explores these parallels, starting with the profound similarities between the philosophy of Star Wars and Vedic knowledge. Noble compares the Force to Brahman, the light and dark sides of the Force to sattva and tamas, the Jedi to the ancient yogis, and more. She discusses the purpose of life, collective consciousness, enlightenment, and immortality, before revealing that the Star Wars films have a universal perspective on life. Readers will learn the connections between these films and the religions and philosophies of the East and West, including Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Native American/First Nations traditions.

Ultimately, One with the Force collects 18 universal truths in Star Wars—principles that are “true for all time, all places, and all people.” Readers will see that the philosophy of the Jedi does not only apply “in a galaxy far, far away,” but is also highly relevant to everyday living. Like Luke Skywalker, everyone should search their feelings and discover the deepest truths of life, in pursuit of their individual destinies, while striving to reach their full potential as human beings. In these ways, readers will learn how to embody the wisdom of the Jedi.

MORE MOVIE MEMORIES
Marketing Genre Movies in the 80’s, Writing Animation, and More

softcover (USA)

publisher info:

written by Craig Miller

softcover

self-published

from the Facebook announcement (November 12, 2023):

“More Movie Memories” theoretically picks up where “Star Wars Memories” left off: with me leaving Lucasfilm. Most of the book will talk about the movies I worked on after leaving Lucasfilm, including “The Thing”, “Superman II”, “Altered States”, “The Dark Crystal”, “The Last Starfighter”, “Muppets Take Manhattan”, “Krull”, etc. etc. And it will also go into my leaving motion picture publicity and starting a new career writing animation and, occasionally, live-action.

I say “theoretically picks up” because the book will actually start with a long section of additional stories from my days on “Star Wars” and “The Empire Strikes Back” that aren’t in “Star Wars Memories”. In the time since I finished that book, the world shut down for the covid pandemic and I filled part of my time with going through my office file cabinets. That was to clear out stuff that I didn’t need or want to keep — and I managed to get rid of an entire file cabinet’s worth of extraneous paper — but I ended up Finding Things. Interesting things.

The Star Wars stories in the new book are centered around photos and artwork and such that turned up *after* the first book was finished.

Anyway, the book’s coming along. I’m up to about 120 pages (as of yesterday). Still a long way to go. But, with luck, “More Movie Memories” should be out in the Spring of 2024. Fingers crossed.

ISBN 978-3-8365-9823-1

solicitation copy:

From the moment Star Wars burst onto the screen in 1977, audiences have been in equal parts fascinated and appalled by the half-man/half-machine hybrid Darth Vader. In 1999, creator George Lucas began the story of how Anakin Skywalker grew up to train as a Jedi under Obi-Wan Kenobi, found love with the Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala, before turning to the dark side of his nature and becoming more machine than man.

After driving the development of nascent digital technology, George Lucas perceived how he could create new creatures and new worlds on a grander scale than ever before. He created the first digital blockbuster, and met fierce resistance when he pushed for widespread digital cameras, sets, characters, and projection – all of which are now used throughout the industry. He essentially popularized the modern way of making movies.

Made with the full cooperation of George Lucas and Lucasfilm, this second volume covers the making of the prequel trilogy — Episode I The Phantom Menace, Episode II Attack of the Clones, and Episode III Revenge of the Sith — and features exclusive interviews with Lucas and his collaborators. The book is profusely illustrated with script pages, production documents, concept art, storyboards, on-set photography, stills, and posters.
